    Once<\/span> an<\/span> order<\/span> has<\/span> been<\/span> prepared,<\/span> the<\/span> customer<\/span> is<\/span> redirected<\/span> to<\/span> the<\/span> payment<\/span> gateway<\/span> (Hosted<\/span> Payment<\/span> Form)<\/span> andsupplies<\/span> theircarddetailsintothepaymentform.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    The<\/span> payment<\/span> gateway<\/span> contacts<\/span> the<\/span> Directory<\/span> Server<\/span> to<\/span> query<\/span> whether<\/span> this<\/span> card<\/span> is<\/span> enrolled<\/span> in<\/span> the<\/span> 3D<\/span> Securescheme.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    The Directory Server determineswhetherthecardisenrolledinthe 3DS schemeandpasses this<\/span> information<\/span> back<\/span> to<\/span> the<\/span> payment<\/span> gateway.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

      If<\/span> the<\/span> card<\/span> is<\/span> enrolled<\/span> in<\/span> the<\/span> 3D<\/span> Secure Authentication<\/span> Scheme,<\/span> the<\/span> transaction<\/span> moves<\/span> to step5.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      If<\/span> not,<\/span> the<\/span> transaction<\/span> moves<\/span> to<\/span> step<\/span> 10.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n

      The<\/span> payment<\/span> gateway<\/span> passes<\/span> the<\/span> URL<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> cardholder\u2019s<\/span> bank\u2019s<\/span> Access<\/span> Control<\/span> Server<\/span> (ACSURL)<\/span> and additional data from which a Payment Request string (PaREQ) is created, to the Hosted<\/span> Payment<\/span> Form.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      The<\/span> customer<\/span> is<\/span> then<\/span> redirected<\/span> by<\/span> the<\/span> Hosted<\/span> Payment<\/span> Form<\/span> to<\/span> their<\/span> bank\u2019s<\/span> Access<\/span> Control<\/span> Server<\/span> (ACSURL) and they are greeted with the last 4 digits of their credit card & the identification<\/span> text<\/span> they<\/span> specified<\/span> when<\/span> registering<\/span> their<\/span> card<\/span> for<\/span> 3D<\/span> Secure.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      The customer thenvalidatestheir carddetailsusing<\/span> their<\/span> 3D Secure<\/span> password,<\/span> whichis<\/span> validated<\/span> by<\/span> their<\/span> bank\u2019s<\/span> Access<\/span> Control<\/span> Server.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      The<\/span> Access<\/span> Control<\/span> Server<\/span> then<\/span> initiates<\/span> a<\/span> redirect<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> customer\u2019s<\/span> browser<\/span> back<\/span> to<\/span> a<\/span> secure<\/span> processing<\/span> page<\/span> on<\/span> the<\/span> payment<\/span> gateway.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      The<\/span> payment<\/span> gateway<\/span> checks<\/span> the<\/span> contents<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> payment<\/span> response<\/span> (PaRES).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

        If<\/span> the<\/span> transaction<\/span> is<\/span> declined<\/span> (following<\/span> a<\/span> 3D<\/span> Secure<\/span> authentication<\/span> failure),<\/span> move<\/span> to<\/span> step<\/span> 11.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        If<\/span> not,<\/span> the<\/span> transaction<\/span> moves<\/span> to<\/span> step<\/span> 10.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n

        The<\/span> payment<\/span> gateway<\/span> then<\/span> submits<\/span> the<\/span> transaction<\/span> to<\/span> the<\/span> bank<\/span> for<\/span> authorisation.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
