No, a chargeback is different from a refund. In the case of a chargeback, the customer contacts their bank when they recognise that a transaction on their statement is not their own doing. To protect the customer against theft or fraud, the bank(s) involved will automatically credit the customer’s account by withdrawing the associated funds from the merchant.
